SUN TZU ART OF WAR

1. When the common soldier are too
strong and their officers too weak the
result is INSUBORDINATION. When the
officers are too strong and the common
soldiers too weak, the result is
COLLAPSE. When the higher officer are
angry and insubordinate, and on meeting
the enemy give battle on their own
account from a feeling of resentment,
before the commander in-chief can tell
whether or no he is in the position to
fight, the result is ruin.

2. Pretend inferiority and encourage his
arrogance.

3. The quality of decision is like the
well-timed swoop of a falcon which
enables it to strike and destroy its victim.

4. To fight and conquer in all your
battles is not supreme excellence;
supreme excellence consists of breaking
the enemy's resistance without fighting.

5. Whoever is first in the field and
awaits the coming of the enemy, will be
fresh for the fight; whoever is second
in the field and has the hasten for
battle will arrive exhausted.

6. Do not interfere with an enemy
returning home. When you surround an
army, leave an outlet free. Do not press
a desperate foe too hard.

7. Throws your soldiers in position
whence there is no escape, and they will
prefer death to flight. If they will
face death, there is nothing they may
not achieve.

8. He who knows when he can fight and
when he cannot will be victorious.

9. Let your plans be dark and as
impenetrable as night, and when you move
fall like a thunderbolt.

10. Victorious warrior win first and go
to war, while defeated warriors go to
war first and then seek to win.
